“

After being in this school for only one year, I am so pleased with the progress that both of my children are making. Class teachers are fantastic and always approachable no matter how busy they are, and I must say Mrs Pepper is FANTASTIC! I love attending the assemblies and school activities because of how enthusiastic she and all the teachers are! Keep up the good work.

“

I loved this school from the moment I walked in and my son does too. Cannot recommend it enough.

“

The school meets every requirement we have. I’m happy with all areas and feel the school in our eyes is outstanding.

Becoming a Governor

Would you like to be a Governor?

  • Do you have an interest in improving education for all pupils, not just your own child?
  • Do you have the skills and personality we require to support and challenge the school to continually strive for improvement?
  • Do you have, or could you make time for up to 6 governing body meetings a year (evenings); a termly committee meeting (daytime) and a daytime school visit per term?

We sometimes have vacancies for governors, someone who is a committed, confident, proactive, motivated, good communicator and someone who can challenge in a professional manner.

What is expected of a governor?

  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Attendance at up to 6 governing body meetings a year (1 per half term, evenings)
  • Attendance at occasional training sessions
  • Joining one of our committees (usually a day-time meeting; 3 per year)
  • Taking responsibility for a curriculum and School Improvement area (school time visits), providing written reports and verbal feedback to the governing body.

What we will do to support you:

  • Ensure you have access to the ‘ready, steady, govern’ training sessions run by the education authority to ensure that you are prepared to be an effective governor.
  • Discuss with you any areas for other training that you feel you may need to support you in your role.
  • Provide support from the Chair, Deputy Chair, Head Teacher and other members of the governing body.

Although this may sound daunting there is a lot of support available, and current members of the governing body will tell you that there is a great sense of satisfaction in having an impact on improving the education for all the pupils at St. Botolph’s. We have fantastic pupils and staff who make being a governor enjoyable too!

When vacancies arise, we can recruit governors in the following categories:

  • Parents Governors - elected or appointed in accordance with the articles of association
  • Foundation Governors - elected or appointed by the Leicestershire Diocese following our foundations as a Church school
  • Other Local Governors appointed by our Full Governing Body - this can include other parents
  • Associate governors (without voting rights) - to provide additional skills and capacity as needed/identified by our skills audit

We look for skills and experience in the following fields

  • Business Management
  • Finance
  • Education
  • HR
  • Project Management
  • Health & Safety
  • Law

If you feel you possess any skills and experience in the areas above and would like to know more, please contact Mrs Pepper, Head teacher, who can organise a meeting with our Chair of Governors, Emily Coleman.
