We are so proud of how much our son has come on and all that is with greatest thanks to the staff, if only he came to your wonderful school earlier. He has his spark back and the hunger to learn, we are so grateful for everything. Sending massive thanks and may your school continue to grow.
My daughter enjoys everything she does at school. She loves to come to school. Why would you pick any other school? St Botolph’s is the best! Great staff and teachers who do their very best.
I would highly recommend this school to anybody. Even though my daughter is one of the youngest in the year, she has excelled in all areas….Great teachers and great school.
If you follow these simple steps, you may notice that your child will find it easier to read with phonics:
1. Learn the sounds yourself for each letter of the alphabet so you can get your child to practise.
2. Read with your child every day and get them to sound out the words they find difficult to read.
3. Make sure your child understands what they read. You can encourage them to retrieve information (e.g. ‘What has just happened?’) or questions that infer meaning (e.g. ‘Why do you think the character is hiding?’)
4. Re-read familiar books and point out the progress your child has made since last reading them.
5. Play the part: use big voices, whispers when reading to your child. Take turns to make reading joyful and interactive.
Our Foundation stage follow the Essential Letters and Sounds (Oxford University Press) programme for Phonics and Early reading.
